LilScope consists of a high quality optic and a holding part with an adhesive pad. The lens is placed in front of the phone camera ...only press lightly and the lens adheres to any smartphone, with or without a case. This is made possible by our moldable pad that adapts to any surface. If the camera is raised with a large 'bump', the adhesive pad is piled up a bit. If the camera is a bit recessed, the pad is pressed flat or some material can be removed from the pad. We manufacture our macro lenses by hand in Germany and strive to provide a high quality in compliance with environmentally friendly and resource-saving principles.

3 levels of magnification: 5x, 10x and 20x

Our current range includes three different magnification lenses – from a magnifyer (5x) to a simple microscope (20x). LilScope macro lenses are offered in sets of 2 and 3, the 5x lens (basic) is also available individually.

Macro-lens LilScope Basic (5x)

This is our all-rounder macro lens. It is characterized by exceptionally easy handling and a great range of focal depth. You don't have to worry too much, you can simply start photographing. The magnification is sufficient for many things: macro photos of plants and insects, pests in humans and animals, cool product pictures (e.g. for ebay sales) and fascinating videos in the microcosm (in video mode the magnification is usually even a bit higher). It is also a useful everyday magnifier when examining injuries or doing craftwork and handicrafts.

Macro-lens set LilScope ‘Pro’ (5x and 10x)

The smartphone Macro Lens Set "Pro" consists of 2 lenses. In addition to the 5x lens, this set also includes a 10x lens. A little more demanding in handling impressive images of flower parts and insect eyes can already be achieved with the 10x lens. Together, the two lenses already cover a wide range of applications. They are easy to use and give you fascinating insights into the micro world or help to draw attention to tiny objects. You don't need a tripod yet. You can also use it to take cool photos outdoors or shoot interesting videos.

Macro-lens set LilScope ‘Expert’ (5x, 10x und 20x)

In addition to the Lens Set ‘Pro’ the Macro Lens Set "Expert" contains a 20x lens, enabling magnification similar to that of a microscope. However, you should use a tripod for the 20x lens or have a steady hand. (In the future, we'll offer accessories like diffusers, lights, and phone mounts to make super macros easier for you.

A little bit of optics to explain the lens quality

We only use aspherical [1] lenses for the more powerful 10x and 20x macro lenses. Thanks to this special surface geometry, aspheres can significantly increase the imaging quality of optical systems compared to spherical lenses. The focal lengths of our lenses range from about 12-50 mm. This corresponds to a magnification of approx. 5 to 20 times [2]. However, how big your object is actually displayed on your phone also depends on the screen size and the respective phone camera. In addition, the magnification often changes if you record videos instead of snapping pictures. To get a more detailed idea of the actual magnification, it might perhaps worth having a look at our Instagram gallery.

[2] Magnification of a lens/magnifier (VL) = 250 mm (object size for the eye from a distance of 250 mm) divided by the focal length of the lens (f) in mm (e.g. a lens/magnifier with a focal length of f = 50 mm magnifies 5 times: VL = 250 mm/50 mm = 5)

Cleaning the lenses

The lens is made of acrylic glass. Its surface is sensitive, so it should not be cleaned constantly. If it becomes nevertheless necessary, the lens can be cleaned most gently with a mild soap, water and a soft brush. To dry, place the lens on a lint-free towel (e.g. microfiber cloth / glasses cleaning cloth) cleaning tissue for glasses cleaning cloth) and drain off the water.
